Random Thoughts – 7/15

Posted: July 15, 2013 by dannytwoguns in Random Thoughts

It’s been a while since we’ve had a post written about me up on the blog but we have one now. It has been a busy and active time and things are going very well. I haven’t gotten around to posting about the Functional Training Summit in Chicago but that was a lot of good information and a good time. That is in the near future and for now we have a quick random thoughts post.

This past Sunday, I hit a long standing performance goal of completing a Turkish Get Up with the 48kg (~106 pound) “Beast” kettlebell. I’ve been working on the Get Up for a while now and it felt good to reach a goal I’ve had for a while and accomplish a feat that seems to be impressive and strong haha.

I mention that only slightly to brag 🙂 but more to note on the significance and importance of setting goals. It may sound silly, but the only way you are going to accomplish your goals whether they be performance, strength or fat loss related, is to actually set them. Shocking I know. But seriously, how many of you have a specific, tangible/measurable goal written down?

Chances are, not many, if any. So the first step, obviously enough is to write down your goal and then have it somewhere where you see it and are reminded of it often. The second step, in the words of the great strength coach, Dan John … “Your goal is to keep your goal, the goal.” Another seemingly obvious, yet profound one.

Are your actions in line with your goals? If your goal is fat loss, are you passing up on that alcohol and/or pizza? Are you doing things to actively reach that goal? If it’s fat loss again, are you on a structured fat loss and strength training program? If not, you should be. If you need help, hire a coach who specializes in what you’re after and can expedite the process and make sure you keep the goal, the goal.

Write down your goals and then let me know them either in the comments here or on Facebook. We’ll accomplish them together.

Muffin Top Meltdown

A couple of weeks ago, the Muffin Top Meltdown came to a close and the winners were announced. Another congratulations to Hope Johnson, Keri DiNicola and Brandy Smith-Galleur on taking home the $1000 grand prize and losing a total of 44.5 pounds, 10% bodyfat, 8.5 inches off their waist, 7 inches off their hips and 2 inches off their arms.

MTM Winners 2

So many people did amazing as well with over 15 clients losing double digit pounds in the short 6 weeks. We even had a client lose 7%! bodyfat in that time. I couldn’t have asked for a better fat loss challenge. Looking forward to the next one in October. Here are a couple of the before and afters…

Annette Before 2

Annette After 2

Annette lost 11 pounds and 4.5% bodyfat in 6 weeks.

Danielle Before

Danielle After

Danielle lost 17 pounds and 4% bodyfat in 6 weeks.

Hope Before 1

Hope After

Hope lost 21 pounds and 5% bodyfat in 6 weeks.

Just a few examples of the amazing progress that can happen in 6 weeks when people fully commit to a change and crush their goals. Again, very proud of everyone and couldn’t have asked for more.

That’s it for now. There will definitely be a guest blog post up this week and hopefully another post from me.
